The first ten thousand words of my new novel flew by, and I have to admit that even I was impressed with some of my writing (usually I hate my stuff.) The next ten thousand words were a struggle, but I kept slogging through. The ten thousand I'm on now have been a tooth and nail struggle just trying to get each word out.
Anyone that tells you that writing is easy, or that they could write a novel if they just had the time is insane! Writing is hard work!

Now that I've spent more than a year re-writing James Baker's novel Goatherds & Gods, what do I do next? No, I'm not going to Disneyland. I've started a new novel. This one will be a science fiction novel, kind of like what you'd expect from me, but it's quite different than my other SF novels. You'll all probably get to learn a lot more about it in a year or so...yeah, novel writing takes a long time!

I have several projects that I'm working on, but I've made great strides in the last couple of months on my three main projects.
The second draft of my screenplay for A Problem in Translation is now done. I should start on the final draft in about a week.
I've finished the first draft of my rewriting of James Baker's Goatherds and Gods. This is a 90,000 word novel that Jim wrote many years ago. It's a great story, but the execution was lacking, so I'm rewriting the beast.
I now have 9,000 words in the short story, now novelette, Out of Hibernation. I figure there are about five or six more scenes to write, so still a bit of work to do on that one as it just keeps growing.

I've been working on a short story, and as I look at it, I've realized that I've almost hit the maximum length for a short story, and I'm nowhere close to wrapping it up. So apparently this short story is going to be a novelette. I don't think it will stretch out to novella length, but I guess we will see in time...
