Damn jobs

Anyone who reads here frequently knows that I had one hell of a hard time finding a job when we moved here. Most likely it was because of my availability, but I spent close to three months looking before I got my current job. I've now been there for close to a month, and today we were all told that the store was closing and that we are going into liquidation.

That means that in the next 6-12 weeks, I will once again be out of a job. I might be able to get a transfer, but there are no guarantees. It does give me time to look, but it's not easy to find something at holiday time...so to say that the timing of this sucked would be quite the understatement. This is one of the main reasons why I don't like "real" jobs, but unfortunately, writing and editing is still very hit and miss on money for me.

Since I like to report on nature sightings I have, I'll mention that while I was standing out in the cold waiting for our oldest to get out of school, a large bird flew over me. I was expecting it to be a goose, since there are so many of them near her school, but I didn't hear any noise. When I looked up, I realized that it was a bald eagle. That's about the only good news I have from the day...

wow...sorry to hear about that. hard to keep up the holiday spirit when they grinch all over you. who knows, maybe it's a good thing and you'll be able to laugh about it down the road. let's just hope you don't have to wait 10 years to chuckle about it ;)

Take every stumble as a sign for greatness. Believe that the story you're telling wants to be read and that, if unemployed again, you'll have time to write it. Everything happens for a reason, it's just difficult to see at the time of the bad things happening. Chin up and all that, but most importantly believe that good things will come of this.

I hope you get the transfer J. I'm thiking about changing my "real job" for a security guard job. Such a job will gives me a chance to read and write a bit. These jobs especially the graveyard shifts are pretty slack. I'm serious.

In 1994 I used to have a job with Whackenhut security. The site was the Pacific Rim Mall. It was a small site a patrol took 10 minutes and I sat on my but and read and did a bit of writing as well and drank coffee. I was unsupervised, the only downside of the job at the time was it was just 3 days a week on the weekends from 7-2am but I got a ride home.

I worked in security for about 2 years off and on and I never got into any trouble, except with the supervisors. You might want to consider a job in security. Starting wage for a job like that here is $15/hour. The only thing you might not like about security guard work is you'd have to get a haircut :-)

Just a thought.

Oh yeah and most security guard jobs/work is for the most part recession proof. Due to the high turnover rate. My best buddy Charles, here has been with the Government at the Royal Alberta Museum. In all the 18 years he's been there he's never had any trouble.

Day security is a bit harder but i'm seriously thinking about getting out of the call center business for security. The hardest part about security guard work is staying awake!
