There's really not much going on...

It's kind of a boring day today. Still looking for a job...still having trouble finding one. I seem to be either overqualified or under qualified for whatever I'm looking for.

Still, there's really not much to talk about, so feel free to ask me questions...

What jobs are you overqualified for and which underqualified?

If you think about that, you won't have to waste time applying for those.

Which jobs are "just right?"

The Goldilocks school of selection.

Marva's Final Exam is the Story of the Day at Sciencefictional.com today, and J' A Chronic Mistake is up on the 6th.
Next week I put up some of the stories that are nominated for Nebula Awards. After that - I hope I can find some more.
SF is not as easy to find as I thought.

Well, isn't that cool? Thanks, Keith.

Marva-If I want some crappy retail job, they generally consider me overqualified...or any "lesser" job. The main reason is the more than a decade of fast food management and college degree. The underqualified continues to be the lack of an English degree, and despite what Keith suggested, I can't bring myself to lie. All other moral issues aside, I do tend to be very honest.

Keith-I'm looking forward to seeing it listed. There are tons of sites out there...just go to Ralan, and you should be able to find a lot...I don't know if it's really enough to keep up one a day for very long...

I am trying my best to limit the story a day to real Science Fiction, not fantasy or horror. 60% of the sites out there are horror and then fantasy or weird tales, and then maybe 10% real SF. I am not considering PDF sites and I can't use the print zines. There's SamsDot, AlienSkin and a few others. I search through Ralan and I use Duotrope's search option because it allows you to select the medium (but not pdf) and that helps. Then I have to read the stories (first few paragraphs and the last paragraph) and that's where the old 90% crap rule kicks in.

I included a story from Planet Magazine, a free site, but one which I have always respected. The story was just OK, but several of my readers were very cruel in their reviews of the story. I called them on it and they backed off and apologized. I guess they didn't realize that there was adult supervision.

I am avoiding SH, A&A, and a few other zines based on the editor's comments when they rejected some of my stories. The nickel and dime zines are always pleasant, even on rejects. Most include extremely helpful comments. The pro and semi-pro sites are consistently snooty, as though they resent that they have to read slush.

Someone suggested the Sci-Fiction archives and I may have to hit those from time to time if the pickings get scarce. AnotheRealm has published an index to their archives and I was able to find some really good stories there that I have on my list of potential stories.

Bewildering Stories? Not so much scifi, I guess. Duotrope might also be a good place to check since you can do a search on Science Fiction genre.

J: Wish I had any decent suggestions for you on the job search.

I think F&SF posts some of their stuff on-line. A few others might be Allegory, Ideomancer, Strange Horizons, Raven Electrick, Apheilon, and of course, don't forget Aoife's Kiss!
